Save Money in Orlando and Enjoy the Adventures

You have done Walt Disney World dozens of times, and you and the family are ready for more Orlando adventures. It’s a budget minded vacation, of course, so how can you have maximum fun for minimum expense and keep everyone interested and entertained?

Orlando deals are numerous, but first you need to make choices. There are so many attractions and only so much time and money. My advice… mix some popular more expensive attractions with less expensive deals and do something each family member helps to choose and plan.

Our first choice was Sea World, and it is based mainly around shows. One of the star attractions, Shamu the Killer Whale offers large tech flat screens, loud music and if you sit in the front of the outdoor theatre, you are guaranteed to get soaked from Shamu’s amazing twists, turns and other assorted talents. It’s an all day affair with other aquatic life such as manatees, sharks and performing seals.  In the evening we shared in the Makaniki Luau or “ Hawaiian New Year” celebration. We were assigned tables, given leis, and the torch show and luau food were the standard fare. We pre- purchased tickets online… went to Seaworld Online Promotions and were able to get 25% discounts off each ticket. You can also look into AAA or AARP if you qualify, and for our revered military personnel, free tickets are available.

Universal Studios, with  3D features showing Jaws, Psycho, Back to the Future, Men in Black and even Barney the purple dinosaur has wide age family appeal. Always consider what the gate price is going to be prior to searching for discounts and also remember that Universal consists of two parts; Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Check the website and search for “promotion codes.” If you belong to Honours Members, the Hilton family chain loyalty cards, you can earn points redeemable at many attractions utilizing substantial discounts.

In the evening consider the “ Blue Man Group.” Three guys in blue paint who are skilled and comedic musicians entertain families of all ages using audience participation and dazzling special effects. Discount tickets are always available online, so book ahead of time for the best deals.

Wet N’ Wild, a fun water park appealed to everyone. For us parents, we did the DiscoH 2 O ride which blasted hits of the 1970’s in an enclosed aqua disco. For the more daring, the Brain Wash ascends up a six story ride tube with a 53 foot vertical drop. SCARY! You can always consider using Orlando Flex tickets for some sizable discounts, but the hook on that savings is you need to be staying 14 consecutive days to make it all worthwhile. We were able to go on Wet N’ Wild’s website a few days in advance and scored a 20% discount on each ticket.

Before we left we also checked out Gator Land, an interesting trip into the past of Florida probably from the 1930’s. Zoologists and staff marine biologist answered questions and showed us a rare American crocodile named “ Alf.” Discount coupons were offered on their site at http://www.gatorland.com/parkhours.php

These are just a few of the fabulous attractions offered. Visiting Orlando during late August, September and early October known as “ value season “ offer the richest discounts of the year. It is true that we are in the middle of hurricane season, but we’ve been lucky and hopefully the discounts and good weather will follow us through to more fun vacations.
